PNG or JPG, which one should I pick?
PNG for screenshots, graphics and anything you will edit again: it is lossless. JPG for photos you send or post: five to ten times smaller. Both tools are free here.
Why is the PNG so much bigger than the HEIC?
HEIC compresses a photo very well. A PNG stores every pixel as is, so a 12 megapixel photo can reach 20 to 30 MB. Use the compressor if size matters.
Is the file uploaded?
No. Decoding and saving happen in your browser. Close the tab and nothing remains.
Does it keep transparency?
HEIC photos from a camera have no transparency. If you need a transparent PNG of a person or an object, the background remover makes one.
