What quality should I use?
Between 75 and 85 for photos on the web: the file drops by half or more and the eye sees no difference. Go to 60 for thumbnails, 90 or more for print.
JPG or WebP?
WebP is about 30% smaller than JPG at the same visual quality and every current browser opens it. Pick JPG when the file goes to an older app or a printer.
Can I compress a PNG?
Yes. A PNG with transparency compresses to WebP with the transparency kept. A photo saved as PNG is much smaller as JPG.
Why did the file get bigger?
The original was already compressed harder than the quality you chose. The tool says so and you keep the original.
